A Level Success
17 Aug 2017
Academic achievement is seen as a high priority at Downside and it is pleasing to note once again this year the success of our pupils in their A level examination results.
The culture of hard work and dedicated teaching has meant that 35% of all grades were awarded at A*/A grade and 20% of our pupils have achieved straight A*/A grades. Downside has been co-educational since 2005 and our girls continue to compete extremely well in terms of academic achievement representing 75% of the A*/A pupil cohort this particular year.
This great year for Downside girls has seen some remarkable performances; Mildred Maybury, one of the pupils awarded the Gregorian Medal (the School’s highest honour) at the end of the year, achieved straight A*/As in the sciences and plans to apply for a place to study medicine in October. Maria Zielinska, who joined for the sixth form, achieved 3A*s and 2As to win her place at UCL.
The boys have done well too with a number of brilliant performances. The sky is the limit for our talented leavers!
Dr Whitehead, Downside’s Head Master, has commented “Our talented pupils have once more obtained some fine results. I am so pleased for them; they were an exceptionally well-balanced and positive year group who will be superb ambassadors for Downside in the future.”
