2016 A Level Results
18 Aug 2016
This year’s A level results show that Downside School is continuing an upward trend in academic performance that we have come to expect from England’s most distinguished Catholic school; in 2016 more than double the number of pupils achieved straight A*/A as in the previous year and 28% of pupils achieved at least 3 A*/A grades.
Not a school to shy away from the serious subjects that ensure all pupils can apply for quality university places, 23% of this year’s cohort have been awarded a full set of A*/A grades and have achieved places at their first choice of university including Oxbridge, London, Ivy League and places to study medicine.
The school achieved 46% A*/A grades overall; this compares to a national average of 29.5% (Joint Council for Qualifications).
In a school clearly looking to stretch the most able, 90% of those who sat the EPQ qualification achieved an A or A* in this challenging academic option.
Dr Whitehead, Downside’s Head Master, has commented “Pupils work extremely hard at Downside and the proof is found in another year of very pleasing academic results”.
