Third Form Retreat
At Downside we really value the opportunity for reflection and each year a number of retreats are organised for the pupils to take time outside of the usual routine together.
The Third Form pupils were able to take full advantage of the beautiful weather during their annual retreat to Holcombe earlier this week. Led by a number of senior pupils, the children walked with Fr James, Fr Boniface and other members of staff to Holcombe’s ‘Plague’ Church. The original medieval village was buried at the time of the Great Plague, and the old parish church, which survives, is surrounded by the mounds that bear testimony to this burial; it’s even suggested that the nursery rhyme ‘Ring a Ring o’ Roses’ began in Holcombe! Each year the pupils enjoy a number of retreats – both day and residential – organised by the chaplaincy team, these trips are highly valued. Learn more about the team here.
