Rugby wins against Bryanston

We have been celebrating a fantastic series of rugby wins, this week. The 1st XV’s weekend performance was so good that the Fifteen Rugby website named them as one of the ‘Top 5 School Teams of the Weekend’.

The teams returned from Bryanston to report the following wins:

1st XV – won 26-19

U15A – won 31-29

U14A – won 53-29

The Fifteen Rugby website described the 1st XV’s performance as follows:

Downside do not traditionally gather a lot of rugby playing headlines, but under the stewardship of Mike Baxter they are beginning to play some really good stuff and to get their rewards for it in results. They have kicked off their season with two wins from two, beating Monkton Combe and Bryanston. They beat Monkton Combe by a bigger margin, but Saturday’s 26-19 win at Bryanston is the win that finally gets them in the Top 5. Bryanston have traditionally almost always beaten Downside, and while Bryanston are not the force they once were, they are still a huge scalp for Downside to claim, especially away from home. Back at School, our 1st XI football team also won their match (5-3) against Milton Abbey, and, the U14 girls were thrilled to enjoy their first rugby training session, last week. Watch this space for more!
