Perpetual adoration of the Blessed Sacrament – book your place
Throughout the month of November, and until 3rd December, perpetual adoration – the constant exposure and adoration of the Eucharist (i.e for 24 hours each day) – will take place in the Crypt of the Abbey Church for the first time.
Everyone is welcome to join the Monastic Community. If you’d like to book a slot, please contact Allyson Jones, and specify the day and hour slot (i.e 11am – 12noon) that you plan to be present.
Dom Leo has said of the event, “We are holding a month of continual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the crypt at Downside Abbey. Our hope is that Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will enable people to come into the presence of Jesus in an especially intense and focused way so that, as his disciples, they can discern more clearly how he is calling them to follow him in their life. To do this is to live out more deeply our baptismal calling to be prophets, priests and kings, each in our own place and time, continuing the mission Jesus himself was given by God our Father.
When you come to Adoration in the crypt you will find vocation stories from the Bible available to read and pray about. These accounts witness to God’s act of love in choosing someone to undertake a specific mission; by his grace they find the generosity, love and freedom to accept their calling. And this is possible for you as well.
The call to a vocation, of whatever kind, is also a call to be concerned for the welfare of others. The mission that Christ has given to his Church must, at some point, become our mission too, however unworthy or inadequate we may feel in accepting the challenge. As we pray we can ask Our Blessed Lady and her Son Jesus Christ to inspire us to say as they have done: ‘You see before you the Lord’s servant, let it happen to me as you have said.’ (Luke 1, 38; 22, 42)”
