Pupil learns to fly!
Congratulations to Peter Welinkar who completed a Royal Navy Flying Course during the Half Term break.
Peter comes from a long line of pilots: his great-great-uncle was the first Indian to receive the Military Cross posthumously, having represented the Royal Flying Corps during WW1.
“The Special Flying Award course which I attended at RNAS Yeovilton, was not only thrilling (having been taught how to fly aerobatics!) but was a truly fulfilling week in terms of experiencing modern military life and being able to interact with active personnel in the Royal Navy, as well as making lifelong friends. I am now considering a career in the Fleet Air Arm after completing a university degree. I think Downside should be extremely proud of its CCF Naval Section as it opens many doors to enrolled pupils, instilling aspirations and a broad set of skills which make for strong leaders in the future, across all walks of life, not just the Forces.” (Peter Welinkar)
