CCF Inspection Parade 2017

Each year, during the Summer term, Downside pupils take part in a CCF Inspection Day. This year, we were delighted to welcome Col Edmund Freely, of the Royal Irish Regiment, as Inspecting Officer.

Col Freely visited the pupils throughout the day and observed a range of activity taking place. He commented that ‘the sense of pride and commitment from the pupils was palpable’ following his visit to Vobster Quay to observe pupils taking part in canoeing, diving, archery and command tasks. Later in the day, pupils displayed their competency in tactical field training and section attack drills, before the Inspection Parade in the School Quad; this included a full CCF drill parade, including a quarter guard, colour party and marching band.

It was fantastic to see Madeleine lead the Inspection Parade in her role of Junior Under Officer (JUO), the most senior role in the Downside CCF.

Col Freely was impressed with the pupils, expressing the Downside CCF as ‘a stimulating programme of pursuits and development, and the results are obvious. The Downside CCF oozes an espirit de corps and positive ethos.  The levels of engagement and take up are high and there is an infectious sense of fun and positive achievement about all elements.’
