Bath Academy RFC compete at Downside

We all cheered for Upper Sixth Former, George, as he represented Bath Academy RFC last weekend….on home turf!

Downside School hosted the Bath Rugby Academy vs London Irish Academy match on Saturday.

Our Director of Sport, Mr Richard Jones, said: “The sport of rugby at Downside continues to see a resurgence under the leadership of our new Head of Rugby, Mr Mike Baxter. Results continue to improve, as do the aspirations of our pupils. In support of this growth, Downside is now regularly a partner venue for Bath Rugby Academy events. The hugely successful day of rugby which saw Bath Academy U18’s play London Irish Academy U18’s on the Downside 1st XV pitch further strengthened our school’s reputation for high quality sport. Sadly, London Irish won 20-19, with a last play penalty conversion, but staff & fellow pupils were extremely proud to be able to support our current 1st XV vice-captain George Hobbs, who started the fourth game in a row at number 8 for the Bath Academy side. The event saw several hundred visitors enjoying the excellent facilities and setting at our school; not to mention the legendary Benedictine hospitality for which we are renowned!
