Australian Good Samaritan Pilgrimage

Recently Downside was visited by the Australian Good Samaritan Benedictine Pilgrimage Group for a day. The group came to see the place where the first Archbishops of Sydney had started their religious lives and also to walk through the Holy Door.

The group had a tour of the Abbey Church and the Downside site with Dr Simon Johnson and also had a chance to see some material relating to Archbishops Bede Polding and Bede Vaughn in the monastery archives. The two Downside monks were the first Archbishops of Sydney, thus we have an everlasting connection to the Catholic Church in Australia.

During the day the group also met the Headmaster and also met members of the monastic community.
