A few years ago we tried to put into words the way we saw our life. We called it our Vision Statement.

DOWNSIDE VISION STATEMENT

Each monk responds to a personal call of love from the Father in Jesus Christ through the action of the Holy Spirit.

He embodies his own joyful response of love in vowed commitment, seeking to explore the mystery of God within the Church in our community life.

This life is based on the Gospel as interpreted by the Rule of St Benedict and our monastic tradition, and is shared with others who look to us for inspiration and guidance.

Through praying, living and working together in evangelical friendship, we seek to receive everyone as Christ, so that we may grow to our full stature in him, who makes us witnesses through the Holy Spirit in the Church to the world, and leads us together to everlasting life.

On the following pages we try to give an insight into what it is like to be a monk at Downside. If you want to ask a monk a question about monastic life, please click .
