Open Day
Requiescat in Pace
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Chris Tambling, our much-loved Director of Music at Downside from 1997 to 2015, who died on Saturday 3rd October.
Chris was diagnosed with cancer shortly after taking early retirement in July; his plan had been to focus on his composing and editing work, for he was much in demand in terms of musical commissions and editorial projects. In recent weeks, he had been working on his final recording of music from Downside Abbey, Jubilate Deo.
We ask for prayers at this time for Chris and for his family, especially his wife, Sara, and his sons, Edward and Benjamin, for his parents and relatives, and also for the whole community at Downside.
Arrangements have now been made for a Memorial Service which will be held in the Abbey Church at Downside on Friday 16th October at 2pm where everyone is welcome to pay their respects. There will be a book of condolence placed in the main Reception at the School from Thursday 8th October. If you would like to leave a personal message for the Tambling family please visit reception at any time between 8am and 6pm on weekdays or until 1pm on Saturday, alternatively send an email to reception@downside.co.uk who will paste your message into the book.
