Jazz is enormously popular
at Downside. The Slaughterhouse Seven, Downside’s Sixth-Form
jazz band, has a national and international reputation,
having played not only at Downside and all over the United
Kingdom, but also in Australia, Fiji, Canada, the United
States, Malta and Gibraltar.
The Original Malthouse Seven
is our junior jazz band, which is popular in the local
area. The jazz bands are often amalgamated into the studio
jazz ensemble.
All the jazz bands, combined
with bands from Writhlington School, perform in our annual
jazz spectacular, Jazz for Multiple
Sclerosis. The Downside
bands are also often in action at the Christmas Fair,
Open Days, Prize Day and many other School events.
