New pupils are encouraged
to learn an instrument and time for lessons is provided
within the School timetable. In 2008/9 tuition in the
following instruments is available:

There is a small stock of
instruments available for hire, although pupils are encouraged
to have their own instruments. Pupils in Downside Senior
School have a remarkable success rate in the Associated
Board of Royal School of Music Awards, GCSE, AS Level
and A Level examinations. Many go on to read Music at
university.
