Each year group in the Senior School has its own Academic Society, and the Abingdon and Court of Earls Debating Societies, the Bede History Society, the Knowles, a society for Oxbridge pupils, and the Conspirators, a society of Catholic thought, all flourish at Downside.
CCF, Community Service, Duke of Edinburgh Awards, or Enterprise is compulsory for all Senior School pupils. Drama is compulsory for the First, Second and Third Forms. The Third Form also follow a carousel of activities that includes the CCF, climbing, cookery, debating, and junior sports leadership. The Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Form pupils participate in a rotating series of activities.
