Boarding at Downside is both enjoyable and purposeful. Pupils of all age groups learn to live alongside and to support each other with the true Christian spirit of compassion and understanding. Downside School is committed to remaining a traditional full boarding school, not a flexi-boarding or weekly boarding school. More than 85% of Downside pupils are full boarders.
Downside is also a national boarding-school; many boarders live in the South and West of England but a significant number come from London, East Anglia, the Midlands and even further afield.
10% of the pupils at Downside are from overseas, most coming from the Catholic countries of Western Europe, and some from South America and Asia.
All the houses at Downside have undergone extensive refurbishment and are equipped with modern kitchens, private changing and showering areas and comfortable common rooms. Younger boarders share rooms or small dormitories; all boarders have individual rooms from the Fifth Form.
