Downside is proud of the outstanding level of pastoral care it provides. The school is well-known for its strong sense of community and for the supportive relationships between the age groups. The House system has been developed to provide the best possible support for both boarding and day pupils to allow them to develop true Christian values.
Each house at Downside is run by a House Master or House Mistress, and his/her Deputy, with the assistance of a dedicated team of Tutors and House Mothers, all of whom take a close interest in each pupil’s welfare. Downside is a notably small, tight-knit community and all the pupils are expected to support each other.
Boarders and day pupils are integrated together in all the seven houses at Downside.
